Adobe recently announced a new logo for Photoshop, the software of all graphics software. With the launch of this new identity, it seems that Adobe has plans to extend the Photoshop brand beyond the creative suite packages. That understood, I can't help to ask the question, does it really need its own logo?
The beauty of the CS3 branding is that it is a system that accommodates the large product set Adobe now offers. I use the design production suite and the nemonic id's, along with the color identifiers are a pleasure to work with, and creates a consistency that has given the Adobe brand a solid place in my dock. I can't imagine having 1 different icon in my dock for Photoshop.
As with any brand, consistency is key. Obviously Adobe has bigger plans for Photoshop, and the new identity will likely justify its existence in the near future - however I can't help to feel that the beauty of the Adobe id system as been broken here with the release of this new logo.
Either way, its still the best software ever invented...
